IMPORTANT NOTICE TO UHA HEALTH INSURANCE PATIENTS

Effective January 11, 2026, Maui Urology will no longer be in-network with UHA Health Insurance.

We have made the difficult decision to terminate our contract with UHA due to proposed reimbursement rates that are financially unsustainable for our practice. Despite Maui County being the highest-cost area in Hawaii and our practice serving a federally designated underserved community, UHA has reduced reimbursement for our most common procedures to approximately 50% of Medicare rates - well below what is required to maintain quality urological care.

What This Means For You:

  • If you have UHA insurance, you will be considered an out-of-network patient beginning January 11, 2026.
  • You may still receive care at Maui Urology, but your out-of-pocket costs may be higher.
  • You will be considered “self pay” where you will pay for your services in advance and then submit to UHA yourself.
  • We encourage you to contact UHA directly to advocate for fair reimbursement rates for your healthcare providers.
  • You may also consider switching to a different insurance plan during open enrollment if you wish to continue receiving in-network care at Maui Urology.

We understand this change may cause inconvenience, and we sincerely apologize. As the only non-Kaiser urology practice on Maui currently, we have worked hard to serve this community for the past eight years. However, we cannot continue to provide specialized care at rates that do not cover our operational costs.

If you have questions about your specific situation, please contact our office at 808 242 8765 and our staff will be happy to assist you.

We remain committed to providing excellent urological care to our community.

Seeing a provider Out of Network

We routinely see patients out of network, meaning you are paying cash upfront, just as you would a hairdresser, a massage therapist or a lawyer.  In some instances, patients have insurance coverage, but it's with a company with which we don't have a contract.  If so, you may be able to submit your bill to your insurance company and receive some refund towards your payment made.

The following site, not affiliated with Maui Urology, gives a basic explanation of out of network reimbursement:
